A Family Affair: Giving Back to the Hockey Community

The roots run deep at Green Scene— not just in the landscaping industry, but in the hockey community as well. Bob Dore’s first passion was the sport of hockey. From Chicago Flames AAA to the Austin Mavericks, his entire life revolved around being on the ice.

It may come as no surprise, then, that Bob instilled this same love for the hockey community in his children. His sons, Josh and Jake Dore, grew up as avid players while his daughter, Jessie, was their biggest cheerleader. Every waking moment was spent at the ice rink, whether practicing drills or coaching a team to the Championship playoffs.

The Dore’s have stayed enmeshed in the hockey community as both players and coaches throughout the years, and have the sport to thank for many lifelong friendships.

Bob’s second greatest passion came to life in 1984 when he established Green Scene, his family’s legacy. When Josh, Jake, and Jessie weren’t at the hockey rink, they were often learning the landscaping and lawn care industry. From watering commercial accounts, to pushing sand between pavers, Bob always involved his kids in his business. Over the years Green Scene has continued to grow, and every Dore has played different roles within the company.

The Dore’s passion for the hockey community and landscaping industry comes full circle. When you’re involved in a community of players your entire life, teammates become like family. It’s no wonder a longtime hockey family friend knew they could rely on Green Scene for an uncommon & urgent project—

When asked to resurface a 17,000 sq. ft. hockey rink at North Shore Ice Arena, Green Scene did not hesitate. Although they had never completed a project like this before, they were confident in their highly skilled landscaping team to deliver a finished product the local hockey community could enjoy for years to come.

In just 2.5 days, Green Scene was able to ensure a completely level foundation for the 17,000 sq. ft. space, so that new ice could be properly installed & players could get back on it immediately.

For the love of hockey for future generations, Green Scene is proud to give back to a community that has given so much to them.
